Studying Chinese
Reflexology In
China
Jean
Gibson
is one of only handful of practitioners in Europe to have formally studied and
qualified in the ancient art of Chinese Reflexology.
Jean,
a professional reflexologist for over 20 years - was invited to visit China by Dr.
Isobel Cowan from
Ireland,
who had studied in China with Professor Hang Xiongwen and his colleagues
for several years.
Isobel asked Jean to be part of her team bringing the techniques of
Chinese Reflexology to England.
“Over
the last 50 years I have visited and lived in many far-eastern and
western European countries and consider myself well-travelled but
arriving in bustling, exotic Beijing, China was a definite culture
shock!," says Jean.
"My
study trip began with a visit to an annual symposium of
700 professional Reflexologists from all over China, along with 30
delegates from other countries.
During
the
day-long event, over 300 research papers were presented from doctors in
many fields of medicine.
“Reflexology is used in modern China by doctors in clinics and hospitals
with great success for medical conditions as their published research
shows.
The Modern theory of Reflexology combines western medicine and
science with traditional Chinese medicine; Anatomy and Physiology – neuro-physiology in particular – and the effect of Reflexology in
improving blood circulation through the nerve reflection to promote the
body's innate power of healing.
In a
country of such vast population and distance the effective use of
Reflexology in China is cost effective, reducing the cost of drugs and
medical intervention.
Reflexology
is
regularly used as an emergency treatment while patients are being
transferred from a village or small clinic to hospital.
"It is hoped that in every village is a trained Reflexologist
to maintain their good health. Television is used to teach Reflexology
to ordinary people so they can help themselves and their families.
