Reflexology:
F.A.Qs
What
is Reflexology?
Reflexology is now a precisely defined form of treatment based on the
principle that the anatomy of the body is reflected in miniature on the
reflex zones on the feet and also on the hands ( although a little less
defined). By using specific techniques of holds and pressures on these
regions healing is both initiated and accelerated in the corresponding
area of the body. One of the wonders of Reflexology is that it can bring
about the same sensations of relaxation and restfulness that a full body
massage can produce and therefore it can be most useful in the treatment
of stress.
What
happens during a Reflexology treatment?
At your first appointment you will be asked questions about your health
and lifestyle, this is an important aspect of treatment as it is
beneficial for the therapist to have an understanding of all the factors
that may be affecting your health including how you feel physically and
emotionally.
The
professional therapist does not rely on external aids. Only the hands
are used.
Treatment takes place with you sitting in a semi-reclined position on a
professional couch or chair. You will be asked to remove only your shoes
and socks and your feet will then be wipes over with a refreshing
solution. The therapist will then examine the feet before commencing a
relaxing foot massage and beginning the treatment which involves the
therapist applying a specific pressure all over the foot / reflex
points, increasing or decreasing according to findings. The treatment
will conclude with a relaxing foot massage.
Who
can be helped by a Reflexology treatment?
Most
people can benifit from a Reflexology treatment and there is no minimum
or maximum age limit. Conditions that can benefit from Reflexology are
limitless varying from P.M.S, Sciatica, Sinusitis, Aches and pains to
digestive disorders.
How
long should each treatment take?
The
initial treatment takes approximately 90 minutes and this allows time
for consultation and case history discussion. Thereafter the treatment
takes between 40 and 45 minutes although you should allow one hour,
which gives you and the therapist time to review the progress.
Should Reflexology hurt?
No.
Reflexology should not be painful or unpleasant experience although for
some people, depending on the reason for the visit, it can be a little
uncomfortable at times. The therapist will tailor the treatment to suit
your needs.
